Jacqueline Smith Exploratory Committee

Dear Family & Friends:

I am being drafted to run for U.S. Congress in District 1 of Utah, the current seat held by Rep. Rob Bishop.   I have created an Exploratory Committee to see about the viability of that race. Rep. Rob Bishop has represented our state for the last 10 years, and many feel it is time for him to turn the reigns over to someone else, especially after his vote on the NDAA. (The National Defense Authorization Act, which gives power to detain American citizens indefinitely without charges, trial, or jury.)

Whether you live in the 1st District or not, if you believe in limited government, if you believe in maintaining our rights as defined in our Declaration and Constitution, if you believe that it is time to have someone in Washington that won’t just vote “okay” most of the time, but will be a STRONG VOICE for…

    • And if there has never been a trial, how is this proved? By executive decision. Jacquie, you are mistaken if you believe granting these kinds of priveledges to the military or the president against American citizens is anything but a direct violation of our 1st and 4th amendment rights. Reading, I believe, the The Federalist Papers #84 would be a great place to start. Everyone, unless on the actual battlefield during war and killed, deserves a fair trial. I am amazed you could consider yourself a patriot and think anything less. I have had very real run-ins from the Patriot Act, without doing anything that normal citizens would consider illegal activity. It’s not illegal, it’s just a “flag.” Trust me, this legislation will come back and haunt us or our children some day. Your boss (Orrin Hatch) voted for it. My Representative (Rob Bishop) voted for it. Their explanations have appeased you. NOT ME!
